SAFETY STANDARDS

  • All guests must sign a waiver to be in the building

  • All guests must wear closed-toed shoes to participate

  • Alcohol is to be consumed responsibly and we will be diligent about allowing those under the influence into our building

  • If a guest is throwing in an unsafe manner and is defying their coach the coach has the right to ask the guest to leave

  • Once players are ready to throw, only two players and the coach are allowed on the lanes. Lanes are enclosed in fencing and wood

  • Players throw their axes together at their target and they retrieve their axes together once both axes are stationary

  • Coaching is to be left to the employees of the facility and guests who seem eager to help will be asked to let the ‘axe-pert’ (axe expert) do the coaching. They are trained to see what needs to be fixed in someone’s throw and will deliver the information in a positive, uplifting way

  • When handling axes we ask that they be kept in the lanes. We ask that guests do not pass axes to other guests to eliminate the hazard of passing sharp objects. When a match is finished the axe is to be placed properly within its designated storage space

  • When throwing there is a red fault line painted on the floor, this line is not to be crossed until the coach deems it is time for players to retrieve their axe. Both players must come to a full stop of forward motion before approaching the target

  • When pulling the axe from the target, players shouldn’t yank or aggressively pull the axe. Instead, it should be rocked up and down to loosen it from the wood

  • If an axe looks like it is barely sticking to the target and is about to fall, we will tell guests to retrieve their axe only when it is safe to do so

What is the minimum/ maximum age a person is allowed to be to throw an axe?

Although we have seen children as young as 5 years old throw an axe, we want to uphold a high level of safety, and not all young children have the same capabilities. We have set a minimum age of 11 years old to participate in throwing. This does not limit them from attending events as all ages are welcome. We also reserve the right to change our minimum age on a case-to-case basis.
As for maximum age, there are many successful throwers of varying ages on the other end of the spectrum and we believe there is no limit. It doesn’t matter your strength or skill, anyone can stick an axe.

Is it safe to be throwing axes while drinking alcohol?

Alcohol consumption is not the main aspect of our business, it is only offered to enhance the experience for guests that enjoy doing so. We have a strict drink limit and do not allow enough consumption in our facility for guests to become intoxicated. If staff notice that a person is intoxicated when they arrive they may be asked to leave at their discretion. Safety is always our number one concern next to the guest experience. When purchasing alcohol it is required to have a prepared food item on your bill.
